  • the unit is very cheaply made. it’s difficult to put on and get off the camera. it never really “sets” onto the lense…thereby you need to hold it in place. unless the lens is positioned just right, you can see the inside of the unit in the photo. will be returning forthwith.

  • I recently ordered a Phoenix RF-46N Smart Flash F/ Nikon. I was really excited when I got the package. So, I took the Flash out of the box, put new batteries in the flash, put it on my camera, flip the little switch to “ON” and nothing. The little “Ready” or “OK” lights didn’t come on, also my camera didn’t recognize it either. I even tried a different set of batteries. So, I returned this since it didn’t work.

  • I put in fresh batteries, turned it on, pressed the test button and it flashed. Unfortunately, that’s all I could get it to do. When installed on my Nikon D70, the flash icon would not appear in the viewfinder. No shutter release, and no flash. My camera? I tried an SB80 Speedlight and that worked just fine, allowing me to snap off flash pictures at will. Conclusion, poor quality control on the part of Phoenix (or whoever makes the thing). I returned it.

  • I tried this flash on my Nikon D70. It completely over exposed every picture (total white out). Mine may have been defective as others have reported good results but I could not get a single close-up picture. Everything was totally white. At a few feet away, it appeared to work ok but what’s the point of a macro flash if it doesn’t work close-up?

  • For its price, this is an outstanding. It enables closeups without the harsh shadows, the bright spots, and the poor guesses at how much light is needed.
