David Cook – American Idol 7 Winner

By MARK WASHBURN

David Cook was crowned American Idol Wednesday, his smooth showmanship defeating a favoured young challenger who swept the judges’ praise the previous night.

“This is amazing. Thank you,” Cook said, after bending to the stage floor with emotion when the results were announced.

Defeated was David Archuleta, 17, a fresh-faced balladeer groomed most of his life for the stage by his jazz musician father. Archuleta was widely praised by the judges for slam-dunk performances in the final round.

Cook, 25, who grew up outside Kansas City, Missouri, and most recently worked as a bartender while playing in clubs in Tulsa, Oklahoma, was a rocker in the style of one of the show’s most successful runners-up, Chris Daughtry.

He wasn’t even going to audition – he accompanied his brother to the tryouts to support him and a producer talked him into giving it a try.

He wound up in the finals.

Wednesday’s Idol finale, timed to fall on the last night of May ratings sweeps, featured all 12 finalists of TV’s No. 1 show.

Among the parade of stars entertaining: Donna Summer, comedian Jimmy Kimmel (“Hey, I valet parked outside; how much do I tip Sanjaya?”), ZZ Top, OneRepublic, Gladys Knight, Ben Stiller, Carrie Underwood and George Michael.

Wednesday’s show opened with host Ryan Seacrest announcing that the contest wasn’t close – a 56-44 percent split among the 98 million votes cast, exceeding last year’s total by more than 20 million.

But it was widely judged a lacklustre year for the popular talent show.

While it still delivered a blockbuster audience, ratings were down about 8 percent and it lacked strong personalities and breakout talent of previous seasons.

Judge Randy Jackson wouldn’t agree. “This has been one of the strongest years ever,” he said before the winner was announced.

Simon Cowell, who had been unsparing with criticism of both at times, congratulated the two finalists, praising them for taking chances.

“For the first time ever, I don’t care who wins,” Cowell said. “I think you’ve both been terrific.”

Lesson 5 – Clickbank Tutorial

Lesson 5 – Examination Phase

You might want to do some examinations before deciding to promote a particular product, as well as a regular examination during the promotion.

1. Examine the Sales Page

Check the sales page of the product if that page can really do a good job converting prospects into buyers, and what even more important is make sure your chances of making sale are not reduced by following factors:

  • Too many external links could be a distraction for visitor to reach the actual order page.
  • Offer to join a mailing list might mean you would not receive commission, but that is not always the case.
  • Multiple payment options are offered by the merchant so if Clickbank is not chosen, your commission is gone. ( i doubt if this is still a problem now)

2. Check your Hoplink

After generating your hoplink make sure to check it and ensure that your nickname appears in the [affiliate= ] line at the bottom of the order page (the page after prospects click the order button).

If you can not locate your nickname then there must be a mistake when generating your hoplink, do it again.

Another possibility that the merchant does not use Clickbank’s service no more or the affiliate program has been discontinued.

The last one, checking your hoplink, shall be done regularly. You will not be notified even when one of the possibilities occur.

Lesson 4 – Clickbank Tutorial

Lesson 4 – Profit tips for Clickbank Affiliates

There are three tips that i would share, which require your patient and time to do.

Tip 1. Promote in the forum

I am not saying that you post all your affiliate links when replying or creating new thread.

You have to do it slowly and be genuine. Visit the forum related to the product you are promoting. Try to get along. Start answering and posting interesting questions on regular basis. Remember to provide something that is useful and don’t ask question that already been asked.

Explore the forum first before doing that. That is why i said, it takes patient and your time.

You will only promote your product in your signature file, which will appear at the end of every post you have.

Some forums do not allow that make sure you read the forum guidelines before joining. You do not want to waste your time.

Tip 2. Promote in Your Email

I am sure that you talk to many people, your friends, family, colleagues, or partners in a regular basis.

This is an opportunity, Why not put the Signature file on your email correspondence. Do not abuse this opportunity by spamming, which means you send email everyday only to promote product after product. They will never open your email again. NEVER!

It’s better to contact them once a month, offering free valuable Information might be a good alternative. At the bottom of your e-mail insert your signature file to promote a Clickbank product you feel it’s related to the e-mail you sent.

Tip 3. Promote in your website

If you have a website/blog, you can promote the product in your website/blog. Of course the product you are promoting must be relevant to your website/blog topic.

It would be better when you have your own mini-site that promote your product for the first and second tips, even better when you have an Opt-in to collect the visitors’ email.

Lesson 3 – Clickbank Tutorial

Lesson 3 – Quality of Clickbank Products

How to know whether the product in Clickbank is a good quality product?

Well, one way is of course to buy and try it yourself for your customer’s sake.

Another way is to research on the product, look for feedbacks of the product, search engine provides you the service you need to do that.

What if you do not have so much money to spend to buy the product? or You want to know the quality before you buy it and try it yourself?

Determining the quality can be done by calculation the percentage of refund rate of a product. Logically when one product has a high refund rate, it means that the product is absolutely crap (when the product has a refund rate higher than 16 percent.)

How to calculate the refund rate of a product?

Wealthy Affiliate University provides that tool, Clickbank Refund calculator, which is very easy to use. There is one manual way to do that as well. OK! pay attention.

Take one example:
Product X price: $49.95
Affiliates earn $33.96
Earned per Sale : $23.73

When you calculate your 75% commission, your calculator should show you 37.46, instead it says affiliates earn $33,96 only, why?

You have to pay attention to is the Clickbank commission, which is 7,5% + $1.
Calculate it with the product price: it takes you to approximately $4.75.

Now the actually accumulative profit for affiliates and the merchant is $45.2.
Affiliates earn : 75% from $45.2, which results approximately $33.96

Earned per sale is only $23.73, which affiliates will earn for each sale, where has the rest $10.23 gone?
It goes to the refund.

Calculate the refund rate:
$10.23/ $33.96 X 100% = 30.1% refund rate.
It means that this product is not very good in quality.

Let’s take a look at a product named Beating Adwords, which created by Kyle & Carson about secret Adwords formula that will allow you to promote any product you want, under any keywords, for lower than any other advertiser.

Beating Adwords sold for $97, which has an earned per sale of $44.42. When you do the math it means virtually no one refunds the product.

Conclusion:
Refund rate formula :

  • full commission = product price – $1 – (7.5%*product price)
  • affiliate earning = full commission x commission percentage
  • refund rate = (affiliate earning – earned per sale) / affiliate

Lesson 2 – Clickbank Tutorial

Lesson 2 – Getting to Know Clickbank

Having already chosen your niche. Let’s get straight to the marketplace, which you can find at the top of the page beside the sign up link.

Say, we look for a car affiliate program in the marketplace, which is quite easy. All you need to do is just searching it based on the category and subcategory, or you can just type in the keyword.

There are severals abbreviated terms and links. I am going to explain only the significant terms mean as well as to show you how to create your own affiliate link.

  • $/sale means the amount after refunds (i will go with refunds further later) and Clickbank fees that an affiliate can expect per sale.
  • %/sale means commission percentage that an affiliate get after a sale. There is clickbank fee involved. (eplanation about this comes later).
  • %refd means referral percentage, the percentage of sales generated by affiliates, the higher it is, the higher as well the percentage of affiliates making sales.
  • grav means gravity, an unique calculation done by Clickbank which takes the number of affiliates making sales and the actual volume of sales over the past 8 week period. High Grav indicates that there are many affiliates making money from this particular kind of product.
  • view pitch page, this link will take you to the merchant link.
  • create a hoplink, this is the link you will need to establish your own affiliate link, which may require you to enter your nick name.

There are a lot of clickbank tools that will help you determine which product is a good product to promote.
