  HD DVD has uncompressed PCM and the same picture quality as Blu-Ray. Same sound, same picture.

  I REALLY DONT UNDER STAND ,PEOPLE ITS LORD OF THE RINGS .YES ITS ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES OF ALL TIME .I MEAN I LOVE ALL OF THE FILMS I THINK THAT THERE REALLY WELL MADE ME I THINK THAT ALL OF U SOULD STOP GETING MAD AND JUST THINK THAT WERE ARE FINNALY GETING THIS MOVIE ON BLU RAY I MEAN LOOK IT TOOK THEM LIKE ALMOST 5 YEARS TO PUT THIS ON BLU SO U KNOW THAT THE PICTURE IS GOING TO LOOOK IS VERY VERY VERY BEST INFACT I THINK THAT WHEN THIS COMES OUT IF U ARE A BLU RAY FREAK LIKE I AM THAT U SOULD MUST OWN IT EVEN IF IT DOES NOT HAVE THE EES IT OK U KNOW WHY BECAUSE THAT IS JUST NEW LINE IT NOT US ITS THEM IF NEW LINE WHATS TO MILK LORD OF THE RINGS ,WELL HELL LET THEM ITS OK BECAUSE I STILL WILL PICK THEM UP ON BLU RAY WEATHER OR NOT IT HAS WHAT I WANT IN IT OR NOT I MEAN COME ON PEOPLE WE BUY MOVIE FOR THE MOVIES NOT FOR THE EXTRA THING I MEAN OK SOMETIMES WE DO BUT HOW MANY OF U HAVE THE LORD OF THE RINGS ON DVD LIKE MILLION OF U DO ME I DONT EVEN HAVE THEM ON DVD NOR DO IWANT THEM ON DVD I WAITED FOR THIS TRIOLGY TO COME OUT ON BLU FOR ALMOST 2 AND AHALF YEARS SHINCE I HER IT WAS COMEING OUT SO PEOPLE IDK ABOUT U BUT IF U REALLY WANT TO INJOY A MOVIE JUST BE QUIT AND JUST HAVE FUN AND INJOY WHAT PETER JACSON HAS MADE FOR ALL OF US .THE MOVIES ARE GREAT AND HIS WORK IS FANTASTIC AND THE MAD JUST KNOW WHAT HE IS DOING .FOR ME THIS TRIOLGY IS AMUST BUY AND A MUST HAVE .I MEAN LIKE I SAID I DONT OWN THE DVD NOT DO I HAVE THE BOOK NOT THAT I AM SAYING THE MOVIE IS BAD I JUST THINK THAT HAVEING THE MOVIE IN DIFFERENT SERVEING IS REALLY DUM BUT THAT IS JUST ME INJOY UR DAY WERE EVER U ARE AND HAVE A GOOD 2010.BECAUSE INKNOW AND U KNOW THAT THIS YEAR IS A REALLY GOOD YEAR FOR BLU RAY .

  It’s amazing how people will just fall in line with whatever is suggested and give a one-star probably without too much thought. I haven’t even seen the blu-ray edition yet because it hasn’t come out. So I can only rate the series. The movies were excellent with the theme of good vs. evil.

  Due to the fact that most retail, and online retail chains are phasing out HD DVD all together, it does make a determine change in the review. The fact that a production company would decide to go with a DVD format that will soon not be available in wide circulation is a very bad business decision. If a review of a product is truly a review, then it should include all aspects of the end result. Imagine if a movie you wanted so badly was finely coming out, but it was only going to be released in BETAMAX, or in combination of BETAMAX and VHS. In this day of the “Digital Revolution” people would be completely baffled to understand why. This is why some people will write a negative review. It is the end result decision; putting a product on the market that does not follow the most basic rules of supply and demand, and in doing so locks out the ability for the wide majority of people to enjoy the product now and for years to come, as well as set the product up to fail and cost retailers, and production companies a lot of money for no reason other than ignorance.

  No matter what everyone says about WB double dipping on this release, these are great movies and this will be a great package on Blu Ray. While it’s probably true that WB could release the extended editions alongside this release, it is WB’s prerogative to do what they want. The purpose of their company is to make money, and no matter how many 1-star reviews this set gets on Amazon, it will be the top seller upon its release. Anybody remember what a big deal people were making about the Gladiator Blu Ray release? All that controversy about the quality of the transfer made no difference in its numbers.

  The bottom line is that this is a very popular movie (which is one of my personal favorites) and it will prove that when it comes out on Blu Ray in April.
