  • This book is clearly for someone who has never seen a squirrel , much less attempted to hunt one!!!!!

  • Over the years I have grown rather fond of the squirrel. Usually around August I start to get squirrel hunting fever really bad, and this is a enjoyable read during those hard times.

This is the revised version of the original book. You can tell that most of the photos throughout the book are a little dated, but they still server there purpose. Most of the photos are from what looks like family/informal hunts, but there is a few more professional looking photos.

The book mostly refers to hunting squirrels with 22LR. There is one sentence that talks 17′s and a brief chapter on shotguns. The book even covers hunting squirrels with bow/arrows and muzzle loaders.

The book goes into detail about different types of squirrels and what each state has to offer as far as squirrel hunting goes. This takes up about 1/4 of the book. I reviewed a few states, but it was not the type of information I sat down and looked at every page in this section.

If you are a squirrel hunter you will enjoy this book. It only covers hunting with dogs for a few pages, so if you are looking for a book on Squirrel Dogs, this is really not the book.

  • this is a great book for new hunters. Some of the information is dated. But overall it is a great book on Squirrel Hunting.

  • At 40 years old, I’ve decided to learn how to hunt and to share the experience with my kids. I figured that we’d start small, and it doesn’t get much smaller (or tastier, from what I hear) than squirrels. So this book looked like an attractive starting guide at a good price.

I found the book to be highly informative, a pleasant read, and I’d recommend it to anyone. Bob Gooch uses what I’d call a “codger” style — the old woodsman teaches us young whippersnappers how to outfox the bushy-tailed tree rat. I’ve read and reread this book several times, and plan to use it as a guide when I take the kids out for our first squirrel hunt this coming October.

  • This is a great book. It covers every aspect of hunting this popular and common game animal. The recipe section is a nice bonus as well as the sections that focus on habitat management and conservation. If you hunt squirrels or are considering doing so in the future get this book, you will be glad you did.
